Have you read the Guinness Book of World Records lately? This classic tome is full of fascinating facts and tidbits about the champions of…pretty much everything, and the latest edition was recently published. Our feline friends haven’t been left out! While some categories—such as champion napper and cutest cat—may be too close to call, kitties have claimed some very distinctive records. A local vet lists a few of them below.
Largest Cat
A Maine Coon named Stewie—which is short for Mymains Stewart Gilligan—takes the top honors for being the biggest cat. Stewie measures 48.5 inches (123 cm) long. That’s one big kitty!
Longest Tail
A cute Maine Coon named Cygnus holds the record for having the longest tail on a domestic cat. Cygnus’ tail is over 17 inches long! Given that Cygnus happens to be grey and fluffy, this adorable furball almost looks like a squirrel! According to his owners, Cygnus often sticks his tail in things accidentally, because it’s so far from his body. They have to be very careful not to close doors on their pet!
Tallest Kitty
Believe it or not, the kitty who holds the record for tallest cat lives in the same household as Cygnus! Arcturus, Cygnus’ ‘brother,’ currently holds the record for tallest domestic cat. This pretty Savannah cat is 48.4 cm (19.05 in). He weighs about 30 pounds. The two record-breaking kitties’ rise to feline fame helps their owners run a kitty shelter: the money they bring in from photo opportunities goes to help other cats in need.
Oldest Kitty
Crème Puff, a kitty from Austin, TX, took the top spot for oldest cat, and her record has yet to be beat. Crème Puff lived to be 38 years and 3 days old!
Most Tricks Per Minute (Cats)
Did you think only dogs do tricks? Think again! Digda, a cute Australian feline, took this kitty honor after performing a remarkable 24 tricks per minute. The smart furball’s stunts ranged from rolling over to jumping over a bar while riding a skateboard. Loudest Purr
